Brno, July 10 (BD) – The beginning of the week has brought good news for all drivers. The signs ‘under reconstruction’ have been put away after 5 long years of works on the highway D1 Brno-Vyškov.

In March 2017, the traffic was limited to two narrowed lanes but the real issue came in June. Limiting the traffic to Brno only to one lane resulted in packed detours and waiting times over an hour. According to Waze app, the longest traffic jam accounted for 14.8 km and average speed didn’t exceed 30 km/hour. The app counted all traffic jams and the figure is negatively astonishing – 302.

Since 2012, D1 highway Brno-Vyškov traffic had been restricted in both directions due to continuous reconstruction. This part of D1 underwent ten reconstruction processes between 2012 and 2015. Sunday, July 9 was the last day when workers removed limitations and barriers except temporary 80 km/h speed limitation in a few sections.

July is also turning point for D1 highway reconstruction between Prague and Brno. One of seven currently modernized sections is on the July’s agenda. The section Velká Bíteš – Devět Křížů will recover its full traffic capacity in August.
