Palác Jalta to Be Reopened Next Year
One of the long forgotten historic buildings, Jalta Palace, is finally being revitalized.
Brno, August 23 (BD) – Jalta Palace is a multi-functional building located on Dominican Square. The house is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
It was built in 1928-1929. Jaroslav Polívka – a renowned Czech engineer – worked with another famous builder, Frank Lloyd Wright on its design.
The first owner of the building 1929, Young Women’s Christian Association originally planned to have a hostel for women on the upper floors. In the basement, there were a movie theater and a restaurant.
Since 1934, the palace was state-owned. In 1989, however, it was passed to the private ownership and changed a few hands before being bought back by the city of Brno in 2006.
Brno Municipality decided to move government officials to the building. Realizing that the cost of repairs would be much higher than the value of the building itself, the place has been left untouched for next 10 years.
The city of Brno has been trying to sell it for years. Finally, the company Premier Properties, specializing in renovations bought the building for 101 million crowns.
The new owner of the house, Richard Saliba, says, “right now, there is some light maintenance work in the progress.” As soon as the owner obtains a building permit, the repairs will begin.
So far, the builders have found the Palace to be in a better shape than they expected. The examination has also confirmed rumors about the secret workplace of Czechoslovak secret service – StB. Saliba said that they have found a fake wall that was used for wiretapping.
The renovated building will have a cinema or theater in the basement; business offices and apartments on the upper floors; and a few luxurious apartments for rent on the top floor.
Jalta Palace should reopen next year. The new owner hopes that the building will be filled with a variety of business ranging from restaurants and cafés to hairdressers and flower shops.https://www.brnodaily.com/2017/08/23/brno-urban-guide/palac-jalta-to-be-reopened-next-year/https://www.brnodaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Palác-Jalta.jpghttps://www.brnodaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Palác-Jalta-150x84.jpgBrno Urban GuideBrno,Brno Urban Guide,Business,Culture,Politics,Urban PlansOne of the long forgotten historic buildings, Jalta Palace, is finally being revitalized.Brno, August 23 (BD) - Jalta Palace is a multi-functional building located on Dominican Square.
