Brno, Nov 23 (BD) – A parking ban sign was put up at the square a few days ago. The parking ban is in effect until Jan. 6. The square is getting ready for Christmas markets which start this Friday.
After Epiphany (Jan. 6), cars will likely not return to the square. A long-time discussed reconstruction project of Dominikánské náměstí should launch in February.
“We are getting ready for reconstruction. […] We assume that the repair works will start in February,” Brno Councilor Tomáš Koláčný (Piráti) said.
“We want to do repairs because of the top layer of the road. If the cars were not always parked there, everyone would see that the top layer looks like ocean waves,” deputy mayor for investments Richard Mrázek (ANO) explained.
Despite his usual stance against the motorists in the city center, Deputy Mayor for Transport Matěj Hollan (Žít Brno) opposes the plans.
In his opinion, parking at Dominikanske namesti shouldn’t be banned until an alternative solution such as a new parking house is found.
Last week at the city council meeting, he presented a proposal to allow the residents to park in the DOMINI PARK parking garage on Husova / Panenská for discounted prices.
DOMINI PARK, opened in September 2016, is operated by the Brno municipal company Brněnské komunikace. Brno invested nearly 250 million crowns in the construction of the parking house with 361 places.
Return to the Fish Market (Rybí trh)
In the past, Dominikanske namesti was called the Fish Market, after the product traditionally sold there since 14th century. A fountain, source of drinkable water, stood there until the 19th century. It was discovered during archaeological excavations a few years ago.https://www.brnodaily.com/2017/11/23/breaking-news/car-parking-ban-at-dominikanske-namesti/https://www.brnodaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/dominikanske-2.jpghttps://www.brnodaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/dominikanske-2-150x100.jpgBusinessNews - ArchivedPoliticsTransportBreaking News,Brno,Brno Urban Guide,Transport,Urban PlansAfter many years of delays and disputes over cost and design, Dominikánské náměstí (Dominican square) will be reconstructed.
