Brno, Mar 19 (BD) – Citizens, students, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, legal entities, or private business can now adopt a piece of public greenery.
“There is always room for improvement; a small flowerbed can brighten up the whole street. That is why we want to offer people the opportunity to adopt a chosen piece of public space and take care of it,” Jasna Flamiková, 3rd Deputy Mayor of Brno-střed said in an official press release.
The adoption application process is very simple. Applicants can call Irena Kučerová in the Department of the Environment of Brno-střed (see their official website with contacts). She will confirm whether the selected area is available for adoption and explain the details.
“[…] We can expect that most people will be interested in the area in the immediate vicinity of their residence, in particular the sections of greenery between the sidewalk and the road, or places around trees or in places of removed dead trees. It [the program] will mainly be concerned with the planting of flowers, small bushes and the care of existing flower beds,” Flamiková explained.
The condition for adoption is that the chosen area be managed by Brno-střed or its partners.
