Brno, Jan 2 (BD) – “The websites were offering clothing, shoes, and glasses well below the real price. In fact, these businesses’ only purpose was to obtain the details of payment cards,” explained Pavel Šváb, spokesman for the South Moravian Police Department.

In cooperation with domain administrators, the police have managed to block these fraudulent shopping websites. At the same time, 2,500 compromised payment cards have been blocked, in cooperation with banking institutions.

The case is being investigated as a particularly serious instance of fraud and forgery. “The damage has not yet been quantified, but so far it is less than CZK 100,000 thanks to the rapid response,” added Šváb.

An absence of terms and conditions of business, limited payment options, and poor Czech language are the clearest warnings. The police recommend paying for goods on delivery as the easiest way to avoid problems.
