Brno, Jan 8 (BD) –  Many drivers woke up and looked out the window with dismay in South Moravia this morning. The Police and Fire Departments reported numerous traffic accidents. “On the D1 motorway, traffic jams formed due to frequent traffic accidents. No-one was seriously injured in the accidents,” reported the South Moravian Police Department this morning.

“Today, we have responded to 17 traffic accidents, in which two people were injured,” the South Moravian Fire Department reported on Twitter around 11:30.

Numerous roads were completely impassable for vehicles over 12t, especially steep inclines and roads at higher altitudes. “Drive carefully, adjust your driving [to the weather conditions] and keep clear of the car in front to allow for longer braking distances,” recommended Petra Hrůzová of the South Moravian Police Department.

Passengers using Brno public transport have dealt with occasional delays on several lines today. Problems and delays of 10-30 minutes were reported on lines 78, 31, and 53 in the morning.

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, the snow will continue throughout the coming days.
