Brno, Mar 12 (BD) – The Osová tram line will make it easier for thousands of people to reach the University Hospital Brno and the Bohunice University Campus daily. Currently, passengers use buses and trolleybuses in order to reach the area.

“We are pleased that we have managed to obtain such a high subsidy for a key transport construction,” said the Mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková.

“On this occasion, I would like to thank the authorized employees of DPMB, who, through their consistent work, ensured a successful result of the whole process of obtaining the subsidy,” added Deputy Mayor Robert Kerndl.

With the construction to be finished by 2022, the tram line will allow the area to be even more accessible – as there will be public transportation connections that will go directly from the main train station. There will be two new tram stops: “Nová Jihlavská” which will be underground, and “Nemocnice Bohunice”.

The new tram line will be disconnected from the existing line at the Osová traffic junction, where the possibility of transferring to other bus and trolleybus lines will remain. “Furthermore, it will have an underground tunnel passing through Mikulášek Square, under the streets of Labská and Jihlavská, and it will lead to Netroufalky Street ,” explained Miloš Havránek, the CEO of DPMB.

The estimated cost of construction is around CZK 1.4 billion, with the subsidy covering 85% of the costs.
