Brno, Apr 9 (BD) – “Everything from the municipality’s food collection will help those in situations where they do not have the basic necessities of life. Without the help of the community and social institutions, they are directly threatened by harm to their health or lives,” explained Pavel Loutocký, secretary of the municipality.

The food collected will go to the various facilities of the Social Welfare Department, where social workers work with people in need, so that the food can be distributed effectively to those who really need help. The food will therefore go mainly to homeless people (people living outside or in shelters), as well as to residents of halfway houses (who have left children’s homes or educational institutions), families in need, and other vulnerable groups. “The purpose of the food collection is to express solidarity with people in need who do not have the resources to support themselves and their basic needs, to help them in a concrete and tangible way,” said Jan Polak, head of the Social Welfare Department.

This year for the first time, the collection included the city’s contributory organisations, who donated 221 kilograms of food. The total amount of food and hygiene products donated was 706 kilograms. The largest amount of donations coming from one individual city building was Dominikanske namesti 3, whose staff donated 116 kilograms.
