Brno, Czech Rep., Nov 27 (BD) – The liberty halls of Kino Lucerna in Prague hosted the press conference to present MittelCinemaFest 2019, the Central European Festival of Italian cinema that is returning to the Czech Republic for the 7th year this year.

The initiative was presented by the Italian Ambassador Francesco Saverio Nisio, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, Alberta Lai, and the Camic Secretary General, Matteo Mariani.

“The 2019 festival will present a selection of works by great directors and emerging writers, comedies and dramatic films, which will transport audiences into an experience of contemporary Italian cinema, the mirror and element of modern-day refraction,” said Ambassador Nisio. It features a representative sample of the most recent Italian film productions and at the same time opens a window to today’s Italian society, offering food for thought on issues at the center of political and cultural debate, on both small and large problems that Italians face daily, and on habits, fashions, and popular trends in the country.

The diplomat underlined the happy union between Italian institutions and business communities that this year also enables the creation of one of the most significant initiatives in the varied cultural landscape of the Czech Republic.

MittelCinemaFest 2019 will begin on November 28th in Prague, then continue with a program of screenings on December 8th-9th at Kino Art in Brno.

The Brno program will include the four films screened this year at the main international festivals and recently at the Venice Film Festival:

  • “Quanto basta” by Francesco Falaschi, (Sunday December 8th, 6pm).
  • “The Champion” by Leonardo D ‘Agostini (Sunday December 8th, 8:30pm).
  • “Moments of negligible happiness” by Daniele Lucchetti (Monday December 9th, 6pm).
  • “The Traitor” by Marco Bellocchio (Monday December 9, 8:30pm), the Italian nominee for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, already released for local distribution.

All films will be screened in the original language with Czech and English subtitles, and tickets can be purchased online or at the cinema ticket desks. The Film Festival is organized by the Italian Embassy in Prague, the Italian Cultural Institute, Camic, ENIT, the Cinecittà Light Institute and the Kino Art cinema in Brno.
