Brno, Sept. 1 (BD) — Men’s football teams enter international break: Zbrojovka tie; Líšeň win, and Brno Alligators finish the short American Football season with a dramatic overtime loss.
Lokomotiva Picking Up Steam
Need a tip for something to do this weekend? Visit Horní Heršpice.
The South Brno neighborhood, which was portrayed by Joe Lennon in “Brno from B to Ž, Part 7: Dolní & Horní Heršpice” two weeks ago, is home to Lokomotiva Brno, a team that plays in the top domestic league of women’s football.
They have had two straight victories and they host FK Dukla Praha on Sunday at 11am. Their facilities are new and the weather should be great. Click here for a map.
Lokomotiva started this season with a 3-0 loss at league-powerhouse AC Sparta Praha, then beat FC Viktoria Plzeň, 4-2, and, last weekend, beat FK Pardubice, 1-4.
Lokomotiva (2-0-1, six points) are fourth in the league behind AC Sparta Praha (2-0-0, six), SK Slavia Praha (2-0-0, six) and FC Viktoria Plzeň (2-0-1, four). FK Dukla Praha (0-0-3, zero) are last in the eight-team league.
FC Zbrojovka Reach Break in Third
In a back-and-forth game, FC Zbrojovka settled for a tie against visiting Varnsdorf on Sunday.
Two goals — each putting Brno in the lead — were followed by Varnsdorf answers. In between, unfortunately, the Zbrojovka offense could not capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
Jakub Řezníček put Brno on the board at the end of the first half, from a beautiful pass by Damián Bariš, which was the same combination that scored the winning goal a week earlier in Líšeň. Řezníček leads the league with six goals and he has a three-game scoring streak.
Adam Fousek, a second-half substitution, scored after only three minutes on the pitch with the help of a Jakub Přichystal assist.
September has a light schedule. After a break for international play, Zbrojovka goes to Příbram on Friday, September 10th for a 5pm game. The only home game of the month is on Sunday, September 19th against Žižkov at 8pm. Ústí nad Labem will host a game on the last weekend.
Zbrojovka (4-1-1, 13 points) slipped to third in the 2021-22 Fortuna:Národní Liga standings, just behind leader FK Dukla Praha (5-1-0, 16) and FC Sellier & Bellot Vlašim (4-1-1, 13).
In MOL Cup play, Zbrojovka beat host Kroměříž, 2-2, in a tie-breaking shootout last week to stay alive in the domestic tournament.
Líšeň Line Up the 2s
SK Líšeň 2019 evened their record at 2-2-2 through the first part of the season when they beat host FK Fotbal Trinec, 0-2, on Saturday.
Jan Silny and Jakub Kucera both scored.
After the international break, Líšeň will host league-leading FK Dukla Praha. The game is on Friday, September 10th at 5pm.

Despite Loss, Alligators End Season With Drama
Using trick plays and a posting three-touchdown performance by longtime quarterback Tomáš Fortelný, the Brno Alligators finished the truncated 2021 CAAF season with an overtime loss, 42-35, to the Vysočina Gladiators.
Brno (2-4) did not qualify for the postseason. The finalists for Czech Bowl XXVIII are the Vysočina Gladiators (5-1) and the Prague Lions (5-1). The game is in Vysočina on September 11th at 6pm.
Fortelný threw for touchdowns of 4 yards (to wide-receiver Adam Pařízek), 16 yards (Jaroslav Doležal) and another 16 yards (Robert Wirth). He also converted two two-point conversions. Unfortunately, an interception led to the final defeat.
Earlier in the season, Brno beat the Přerov Mammoths twice.
