Brno, Sep. 28 (BD) – A new running festival, “Skolíme Koliště”, will take place in Brno on October 2nd, in support of the Social Endowment Fund of the City of Brno and the South Moravian Region. The festival will see several routes established in Koliště Park for all kinds of running enthusiasts, ranging from a 500-meter track for families and kids, up to the main competition run of 5.8 kilometers. In addition, the one-day event will offer entertainment for children, refreshments for many tastes, and concerts, the highlight being the legendary Jaroslav Uhlíř with his band.

“Our ambition is to offer sports and leisure activities in the form of recreational activities for children and families, cross-country races, and a cultural program,” said Markéta Vaňková,  the Mayor of Brno and also the chair of the board of directors of the Social Endowment Fund, “all of which is supporting the Social Endowment Fund of the City of Brno and the South Moravian Region and promoting its activities to the public. In addition, we were looking for an interesting and unexplored location for runners, so the choice fell on the park in Koliště.”

The event is organized by the 2BWINNER TEAM Association. “We associate amateur and professional athletes,” said the chairman of the organizing association, Karel Zadák. “Our main activity is sports training for children, young people and adults in running, triathlon and also organizing sports events. We can therefore guarantee that the prepared tracks will correspond to the age of the participants in the individual categories and that the races will be organized safely and professionally.”

According to Vaňková, the entry fees for the races will go to the Social Endowment Fund, and it will also be possible to donate on the day. Those donating more than CZK 200 will receive a sports t-shirt.

The first race on the day, the 500-metre run, will start at 9.30am, building up in distance over the day until the main race begins at 11.50am for elite runners, and 12.30pm for hobby runners. Entry fees for non-competitive races or students will be CZK 100, and entry for the main race will be CZK 400.

Online registration is already closed, but runners can sign up in person on Friday, October 1st, from 3pm to 6pm on the south terrace of the Janáček Theater (oriented towards Koliště Park), or on the day of the race until the capacity of runners is exhausted.

Musical performances and concerts will take place on the piazzetta in front of the Janáček Theater, with performances from Yamaha Music School, the Jiří Kalousek quartet (pop, jazz, rock, blues, funk, soul), and Ritmo Factory, with music provided in between acts by DJ Groovyluvah. Jaroslav Uhlíř will perform a selection of his greatest hits, many of them co-written with Zdeněk Svěrák, in a special show at 3pm, in a classic rock composition with an accompanying band.

The accompanying program for children includes sports activities for children, such as archery, slackline, and stilts, as well as a balloon show, face painting, and a bouncy castle. There will be gastronomical delights available on the day from Indonesian, Spanish, Mexican and Czech cuisine, as well as Thai ice cream.
